Metal Finishing
Surface finishing presents a variety of options and combinations, and, when necessary, the experts at M&R Plating can steer customers to the right finish based on a metal’s application and the conditions it must tolerate. We offer both rack and barrel finishing in the form of zinc electroplating, zinc nickel plating and mechanical galvanizing. Additionally, chromates are available in a variety of colors – clear, yellow, black and olive drab – and in a high corrosion format. Ultra and super seals, along with dyes, round out our offerings.

Zinc Electroplating
Zinc electroplating provides steel products with a thin layer (0.0001” to 0.0005”) of zinc to protect against corrosion caused by moisture, oxygen and atmospheric gases. Available in rack and barrel formats, this finish is applied in a process that uses electricity.

Zinc-Nickel Electroplating
A coating comprised of a combination of chemical elements (zinc and nickel), this finish offers up to five times the corrosion protection than zinc alone.

Mechanical Galvanizing
A zinc finishing process conducted at room temperature in rotating barrels with no electricity involved, mechanical galvanizing prevents steel from corroding and becoming soft or brittle.

Electroless Nickel
Electroless Nickel is a process for depositing a nickel alloy from aqueous solutions onto a surface without the use of an electric current. Electroless Nickel is extremely versatile & reliable. Electroless Nickel plating can avoids some of the issues of traditional electroplating. Electroless Nickel plating provides an even plating thickness that allows for tolerances to be achieved. Electroless Nickel plating also offers some of the best corrosion protection compared to other plated alloys because of the uniformed surface.

Stainless Steel Passivation
Stainless Steel Passivation is the treatment of a surface with a mild oxidant intended to remove free iron and other foreign matter, for the sole purpose of improving corrosion resistance by enhancing the formation & structure of the parts naturally forming corrosion resistant passive layer. Stainless Steel Passivation promotes the formation of a chromium rich corrosion resistant layer.

Chromates & Seals
These products provide an additional level of corrosion protection for metal surfaces coated in zinc. Available in decorative or colored finishes (clear, yellow, black and olive drab), chromates also prevent surface discoloration from fingerprints and perspiration. Applied as a final step, seals harden chromates and increase their adhesive qualities to zinc.
